The recovery most overlook.
You can train hard and eat well, but if you do not sleep, you will not see the results. Sleep is when your body actually adapts. Here is why, and how to get more of it.
Training is the stimulus. Sleep is when the adaptation happens. During deep sleep your body releases growth hormone, repairs muscle, consolidates skills, and resets the hormones that control hunger and stress. Skip it, and you blunt every other thing you are doing right.
What poor sleep quietly costs you
Short sleep raises the hunger hormone ghrelin and lowers the fullness hormone leptin, so you eat more without meaning to. It raises cortisol, slows muscle repair, and dulls focus and willpower the next day. Over time, chronic short sleep is linked to weight gain, higher blood pressure and worse blood-sugar control, the exact things our health-first coaching is built to prevent.
Five things that improve sleep tonight
- Keep a consistent schedule. Same bed and wake time, even on weekends.
- Dim screens before bed. Bright light late tells your body it is daytime.
- Cut caffeine after early afternoon. It lingers longer than you think.
- Cool, dark room. A slightly cool bedroom helps you fall and stay asleep.
- Train regularly. People who exercise consistently sleep deeper.
You do not grow in the gym. You grow while you sleep. The session just sends the signal.
